Hi Nikolaj,

I agree with you about the first factor. Avoid a datawarehouse for small companies.

As for the second factor. There are predefined datamodel only for the main important ERP on the market. Small company normally have local suites or not-knowed ERP, so it a bit difficult to have the standard packaged datamodel.

Very interesting your site and the project of the book: I will follow it.

Thanks for your participation.

I have been working professionally with implementing BI systems in small and medium sized organizations since 2001 and in my experience, to have success in this space there are two critical factors:

1) Avoid building a datawarehouse/cube/in-memory storage. It increases costs and reduces flexibility. And it is rarely necessary because small companies have limited data and have it all inside one ERP system

2) Start the implementation with a predefined (packaged) datamodel for the specific ERP system. This will get the company started with using the system day 1, which is crucial. Long-term projects are more likely to fail in small organizations.

I am writing a book about this topic on the web address supplied above. I hope it can be of use!

Best regards,
Nikolaj Henrichsen

Hola Salvador,
